Multiple basket workshops are offered throughout the 2017 season, small class sizes.
Your fee includes overnight lodging, all meals, instruction and materials.
June 22 - 23, 2017 - 1 night
Half Bushel Basket Workshop
Arrive the afternoon of June 22nd – 1 hour in evening class time
June 23rd - class starts at 9am – 4ish pm with lunch break
This is a great basket! Dimensions: 14” D x 9 ½”H not including handle.
Arrive the afternoon of the 22nd, settle in, enjoy the camp and after dinner meet for an hour. There will be a short intro to your basket and students will prepare the bases for weaving the next day. On the 23rd following breakfast, students will learn to chase weave with fine weavers to build the base circumference. The weaver gradually increases in width for weaving the rest of the basket. Add two hand carved hardwood handles for carrying. A sturdy half round rim accented with seagrass rim filler and double lashed completes the basket. This class will be fun for all weavers. Linda will demonstrate, teach you weaving techniques and guide you while you weave your basket. Instructor will have all the materials to make the basket and tools students will need during class.
July 21 - 23, 2017 - 2 nights
Large Adirondack Pack Basket
Arrive the afternoon of July 21st – one hour evening class time
July 22 & 23 - class starts at 9am – 4ish class time each day with lunch break
This is a great pack for an adult. Men and woman can wear this size pack. Students will weave with reed, add a hardwood handle, finish the rim and complete with webbing or custom leather harness.
Arrive the afternoon of the 21st, settle in, enjoy the camp and after dinner meet for an hour. There will be a short intro to your basket and students may weave the base for weaving the next day. On the 22nd following breakfast students weave the sides. Linda will be guiding students as they concentrate on shape, creating a belly while learning to continuous weave. The main weaving will be done this day. The baskets will sit and dry overnight. On the 23rd, students will pack baskets tight, level the top, weave a false rim, cut and tuck spokes, insert a hardwood handle, and complete the rim and skids. Lastly, add a custom adjustable webbing harness or custom leather harness* for carrying. Linda will guide and teach many tips and techniques. Students will be using a drawknife and other sharp tools. Instructor will have all the materials to make the basket and tools students will need during class. Baskets will not be stained during class.
*Harness choice needs to be made two weeks prior to class to allow for ordering and making. Once enrolled, Linda will contact you regarding the leather harness fee.
