Multiple basket workshops are offered throughout the 2017 season, small class sizes.
Your fee includes overnight lodging, all meals, instruction and materials.
August 25 - 27, 2017- 2 nights
Medium Adirondack Pack Basket
Arrive the afternoon of Friday Aug 25th
August 26 & 27, 9am – 4ish class time on Saturday & Sunday
This is a great pack for an adult. Men and woman can wear this size pack. Woven with reed, add a hardwood handle, the rim and complete with custom webbing or custom leather harness.
Arrive the afternoon of the 25th, settle in, enjoy camp. On the 26th following breakfast, students weave the sides. Linda will be guiding students as they concentrate on shape, creating a belly while learning to continuous weave. The main weaving will be done this day. The baskets will sit and dry overnight. On the 27th, students will pack baskets tight, level the top, weave a false rim, cut and tuck spokes, insert a hardwood handle, and complete the rim and skids. Lastly, add a custom adjustable webbing harness or custom leather harness for carrying. Linda will guide you and teach you many tips and techniques. Students will be using a drawknife and other sharp tools. Instructor will have all the materials to make the basket and tools students will need during class.
*Harness choice needs to be made two weeks prior to class to allow for ordering and making. Once enrolled, Linda will contact you regarding the leather harness fee. Baskets will not be stained during class.
September 22 - 23, 2017- 1 night
Small Adirondack Pack Basket
Arrive the afternoon of September the 22nd
September 23, 9am – 4ish class time
The Adirondack Pack Basket is one of the most recognized objects associated with the Adirondacks. This will be a day of weaving ending with a great pack ready for your day hike or canoe trip. Adults and children can wear this pack. Woven with reed, add a hardwood handle, the rim and complete with cotton or custom leather harness.
Note: Harness choice needs to be made two weeks prior to class to allow for ordering and making.
Students weave a plain weave base with the pre-cut spokes. Then learn to continuous weave the sides of the basket; level the top, cut and tuck, insert the handle, and complete the rim. Lastly, add a custom adjustable cotton or custom made leather harness for carrying.
This class will be fun for all weavers. Linda will demonstrate, teach you weaving techniques and guide you while you weave your basket. Students will be using a drawknife with shave horse and other sharp tools.
Linda will have all materials to make the basket and tools students will need during class.
Students should wear comfortable clothing. Includes meals: Friday evening dinner, breakfast & lunch on Saturday. Optional: ask about lodging for Saturday evening as well to rest, relax and extend your stay at Sagamore!
