Great Camp Sagamore welcomes groups of 20 or more people for tours with advance reservations. We are open from Memorial Day through Columbus Day and are happy to schedule your group during the season.
You will see 27 buildings, all designated National Historic Landmarks.
You will be greeted by your tour guide in the Chalet. The Chalet also has bathrooms and a cozy snack shop where you can be seated.
As an historic site authentic to 1897, Great Camp Sagamore is not paved anywhere and does not have ramps to most of its buildings. The walking tour is about ½ mile in total with many places to sit. There is a hill in the center of camp. Those who do not wish to walk with the group will see a one-hour video presentation on the Durant camps in Raquette Lake while seated in the snack shop. The group that does the walking tour will return when the DVD is over. We often split groups in this manner for the convenience of the group leader or tour operator.
The permanent exhibits are accessible to all and there is an accessible bathroom in the barn. The barn is near the snack shop and it houses the Vanderbilt exhibit and the virtual tour. Across from the barn is the accessible carriage house that houses the Durant exhibit. These exhibits can be viewed by all at everyone’s leisure.
Discounts are offered for group tours. To place a reservation for a group tour of Great Camp Sagamore, please call our Tour Supervisor at (315) 354-5311 x39. (Please note that in the winter, messages are checked weekly.)
