Volunteer Work Weekends

We are so fortunate to have a team of volunteers who join us for three significant volunteer weekends (two general weekends and one committed to National Grid) each season. This amazing commitment of volunteer time adds up to a lot of work done, many hours donated, and many memories made (often for intergenerational families) here at Great Camp Sagamore. We have been hosting this volunteer program for well over 30 years to maintain and improve this National Historic Landmark.

Everything from carpentry to quilts, from electrical work to delicate restoration work --our volunteers bring their smiles, their humor and their extraordinary talents to our campus--giving us gifts way beyond their time, but time that rolls into matching grants which helps us with funding and maintaining this delicate wooden community in the Adirondack wilderness.

Work weekend attendance is a benefit of membership. Volunteers pay to come to work weekends (the fee covers meals) though their housing is gratis. There are often fun extras from entertainment, gatherings, and culinary treats to spark up the weekend for our valued friends.  Would you like to join us?

More than just time
Employees of National Grid, formerly Niagara Mohawk Power Corporation, have held over 20 work weekends. Their highly technical skills have been invaluable in our continuing upgrades.  These specialist hours along with those of our teams hours are applicable to many matching historic preservation grants in-kind donations. Because of the generosity of volunteers, Sagamore has matched tens of thousands of dollars since 1990 which are invaluable in our pursuit of matching grants and funding.
