Executive Director – Great Camp Sagamore

Great Camp Sagamore (GCS) seeks an Executive Director for this non-profit and steward of the former wilderness retreat of the Vanderbilt family.  Located deep in the Adirondack Park, GCS exists to preserve the 27 buildings and landscape of this National Historic Landmark and operate historic tours and residential educational programming.  The non-profit works year-round, onsite and remotely, but GCS is currently open to the public only from May to October.

The Executive Director manages a small team of year-round staff and roughly 25 seasonal staff, while reporting to a Board of Trustees.  Areas of responsibility include historic preservation, educational programming, museum and hotel administration, historic interpretation, hospitality, finance, facilities management, development and fundraising.  The Executive Director leads the organization and makes the historic resources available for the benefit of public knowledge, experience and enjoyment.  Compensation is competitive and onsite housing is provided in the landmark. When GCS is open to the public, board is provided.

Successful candidates love what GCS has become and want to make it an essential historical and educational institution in the United States.  Experience in non-profit management, hotel administration, historic preservation, and educational institutions are all positives.  Strong writing, public speaking and computer skills; management and fundraising aptitude; love for the wilderness; and a dedication to GCS and the Adirondacks, are required.

To apply, submit a cover letter and resume to Board Chair Matthew Melewski at mmelewski@greatcampsagamore.org.
